1. Explain how TCP and IP work in concert with each other to provide reliable internetworking.  Then explain the main differences between these two protocols.

2. IP

    a. Name four protocols that depend on IP directly.

    b. What are the two most important functions of IP?

    c.  What is the dotted decimal address for the following binary address:

      10100011 11001011 00001010 10010001

    d. What class is the address above?

    e. Knowing the class of the address, what would the network mask be for this addresses (binary)?

    f. What is the network addresses for this address (binary)?

    g. What is the range of network addresses for Class A addresses?

3. Define the following terms:

    a. network mask
    b. dotted decimal
    c. time to live

4. Sketch an IP header and label the fields within it. 

5. What is the difference between a routed and a routing protocol?

6. What is a multiprotocol router?

7. Describe the hierarchical parts of a class A, class B and Class C address?

8. How many host addresses can be used when a class C address is used without submetting? 

9. How many class B networks are there? 

10. With only 10 users on each LAN and no subnetting, how many class C addresses would be needed for a school that has an internet connection, two student LANs, an instructor LAN and a staff LAN?

11. How many Class C addresses would be needed in problem 10 if subnetting is permitted?

12. What are the first four bits of a:

    a. class A address?
    b. class B address?
    c. class C address?
    d. class D address?
    e. class E address?

13. What binary value [describe in English] is in the host region of an IP address that is:

    a. a network address?
